School History
The original Los Banos Grammar School was moved into Los Banos from Central Point in 1891, and that original building is still used as a home which is located at 1130 5th Street. In 1892, a new school was built across from the old Catholic Church on 5th and "K" Streets but burned down in 1900.
A second school was built on the site where the current Santa Fe Market is located, at 6th and "K" Streets, and was used until 1917. In 1917, Los Banos Elementary was built at 7th and "K" Streets and has undergone considerable remodeling over the years. Los Banos Elementary School is one of the three remaining original grammar schools that made up the West Side Union High School District in 1897. The kindergarten buildings were built in 1935; the intermediate building in 1948; the office building in 1965; and the central kitchen in 1966.
Los Banos Elementary is located on 8.5 acres on the rural west side of the Central Valley. Students attend school on a traditional calendar. There are 18 classrooms, 18 portables, an office, library, computer lab, resource room, cafeteria/central kitchen, and the Information Services Department for the entire district.
