Student Records/Custody
Inspection of Student Records: State law requires that the District notify parents of the following rights which pertain to student records. (Ed. Code, §§ 49063, 49069, 34 C.F.R. § 99.7)
A parent or guardian has the right to inspect and review student records relating directly to his or her child during school hours or obtain a copy of such records within five (5) business days of his/her request. Parents and guardians will be charged 25 cents per page for the reproduction of student records.
Any parent who wishes to review the types of student records and information contained therein may do so by contacting the principal at his/her child's school. Only parents and guardians with legal custody can authorize the release of student records to others.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and Los Banos Unified School District protect the privacy of student educational records and generally limit access to information contained in those records by third parties. You may choose to grant Los Banos Unified School District permission to disclose educational records to certain individuals in accordance with FERPA. Each school site has a FERPA form for you to fill out if you wish to give access to your child's records to others. FERPA is outlined in your students Mandatory Notices for Parents and Legal Guardians booklet.
